Daniel S. Spellman, Ph.D. holds the position of Distinguished Scientist and Scientific Lead for Merck’s global Bioanalytical Department within Pharmacodynamics, Pharmacokinetics, and Drug Metabolism (PPDM) at Merck Research Laboratories (MRL). In this role, he is responsible for strategic and scientific oversight of the department’s work and portfolio of projects spanning Discovery through Development and across therapeutic modalities (small molecules, biotherapeutics, and vaccines), novel capability/technology assessment and implementation, and mentorship of the department’s diverse and multidisciplinary scientists. In his time at MRL, Daniel has also worked as Director of Discovery Bioanalytics, Senior Principal Scientist and Scientific Lead of Protein Bioanalysis, Group Leader of Proteomics and Metabolomics, and Neuroscience Lead for the Merck’s Proteomics Department. Daniel received his doctorate from New York University's School of Medicine working in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas Neubert. The focus of his thesis was the development and application of quantitative proteomic methodology to the study of neuronal signal transduction, protein complexes, and posttranslational modifications. Before attending graduate school, he worked in the Protein Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania as a Mass Spectrometry Technician. Daniel earned his BS in Biochemistry from the University of Arizona and MS in Cell Biology from New York University.
