Andrea Bertolotti-Ciarlet holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Virology from Baylor College of Medicine combined with post-doctoral training in viral systems and vaccine development at the University of Pennsylvania. Her academic work focused on the development of the norovirus and rotavirus subunit vaccines as well as research on structure-function analysis of the HIV-2 virus envelope, including generation and characterization of replication competent variants of HIV-2 with complete deletions of the V1/V2 and V3 hypervariable loops as tools for vaccine development. Andrea joined Takeda in 2016 and since then she has served as the Technical Development lead for the Norovirus vaccine program, the head of the Analytical Development team and more recently she took on the role of the Vaccine Research and Analytics function head. She has over 20 years of industry expertise in biochemical and cell-based assay development and screening, enabling small and large molecule/target discovery, lead identification, and optimization as well as vaccine development. Before Takeda she worked at Merck Research Laboratories and Biogen. She nurtures a keen interest on implementing knowledge sharing to raise awareness about vaccines safety and the importance of vaccination.
